I guess you could say I’ve always had an affinity for handmade gifts. My grandmother was a talented seamstress, and she taught me to sew, crochet, and patchwork quilt when I was young. They were only little-girl-sized projects, but it was something fun and special to do together. Handcrafted is in my Scandinavian heritage, and I would presume it is in your heritage as well.
Perhaps this legacy, coupled of course with that ‘made in America’ pride, helped drive the entrepreneurial spirit in me. As a web designer, my passion is crafting websites and custom solutions for other small businesses and creatives (Verity Web Solutions). I help exceptional dreamers and doers grow and succeed online because the drive behind handcrafted and handmade—the can-do spirit of small business owners—is contagious and powerful. This is why I support these artisans. This is why I am a cheerleader for other women in business—my kindred spirits. This is why I swoon over handcrafted items on aftcra.
Without further adieu, here are a few of my favorite things— handmade Christmas gifts, made in the good ol’ US of A, to warm the hearts of your own kindred spirits:
1. Modern Gray and Silver Industrial Concrete Planter
Isn’t this little planter just the cutest? I love keeping a splash of greenery on the window sill above my own kitchen sink, and this concrete planter—handcrafted in my home state of WI—is perfect paired with a sweet succulent for your friend’s sill or workspace.

2. Concrete Coasters with Gold
And if you’re going the succulent planter route, how can you resist matching them with these gold-accented concrete coasters? Add some glam and protect surfaces from water damage at the same time.

Perfect for the chilly winter months and the holiday season, this black plaid scarf—from a maker in WY—lays beautifully and adds a pop of winter style.
Paired with a simple tee or a little black dress, any woman would rock the elegant yet understated rustic look.

And this scarf. *swoon* What can I say: I get a little wide-eyed for all things plaid. Also made in WY, this oversized blanket scarf is a hot trend this season and an effortless accessory for everyday or special occasions.
5. Custom Wood State with Heart
Do you have a friend with a lot of state pride? Adorn their gallery wall with this solid wood state decor, handcut and stained in VA! And see that little heart? You can have the woodcrafter place the heart anywhere on the state you choose—how special to mark a hometown or other significant location for a loved one!

6. Little Gold Bird Post Earrings
Handmade in IL, these tiny little gold birds add a touch of whimsy and fun to any outfit or ensemble. And what girl doesn’t love to receive a new pair of earrings?

7. Plaid Wristlet with Brown Leather Accent
Again, plaid. Lovely, lovely plaid. This stylish wristlet, handmade in FL, is perfect as a little purse, just large enough to hold the essentials like cell phone and wallet.
What is your favorite item on this list? Do you have a friend who would absolutely LOVE one of these gifts? As we approach this holiday season, let’s approach it from the mindset of supporting our local artisans. Giving gifts with heart and meaning. Celebrating the true meaning of the season. Let’s be champions of handmade.
